PTE Overview

PTE- It is a computer-based test for evaluating the English language proficiency of the non-native English speakers who are aspiring to study abroad or seeking immigration.

PTE test structure includes in two formats, Academic and General Test. PTE assesses listening, reading, speaking and writing in a single three-hour online test session.

PTE Academic-

PTE Academic is the world’s leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. To complete the PTE Academic test, a candidate needs to go to a secure Pearson Test Centre. The candidate uses a computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to questions.

The result of PTE academic test is available within five business days. The three-hour PTE Academic test appraises a real-life measure of test takers’ language ability and the PTE Academic score is accepted for admission to several institutions across the world, including countries like – Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. Apart from being recognized by a number of universities across the world, even ministries of education and employers accept it as a proof of English language proficiency.

PTE Academic Eligibility criteria

There are no specific eligibility criteria related to academic qualification. However, candidates need to be at least 16 years of age before they appear for the PTE 2018 Academic test. Students, who are between 16-17 years, need to produce certificates of parental consent to appear in the exam.

PTE Academic Exam Pattern

The total duration of PTE-A test is of three hours. There are three main parts to the PTE-A test; Speaking and Writing (merged together), Listening and Reading.

There are twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choices to essay writing and interpreting information. Candidates might come across pie charts and graphs as well apart from the regular question sets.

Part 1

PTE Academic Speaking & Writing,

Duration- 77 to 93 minutes.

Part 2

PTE Academic Reading,

Duration- 32 to 41 minutes.

Part 3

PTE Academic Listening,

Duration- 45 to 57 minutes.

Score

The overall score is based on the student's performance on all test items. For each item, the score you obtain contributes to the overall score. The overall score range is 10-90 points.

PTE Fees

The PTE exam fees in India is Rs. 10,900/-.

Upon cancellation of a test either one week prior to the test day or more, 50% fee is refunded. For any cancellation in the week, no money is refunded.

PTE General

Formerly known as London Tests of English General, is a comprehensive and coherent assessment program that covers all the Common European Framework (CEF) levels. It gives test takers an opportunity to identify the strengths of their language proficiency, and track improvement and success over time.

PTE General is used by test takers who are looking for an internationally recognized English test that allows them to build a portfolio of their language proficiency for travel, further education or to enhance their employment prospects.

PTE is a suite of six tests at different levels (A1, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). Test takers are free to choose a test level according to their own English language abilities. And result will typically available in 12 weeks after the test date.

PTE General Certificates do not expire. English language learners are encouraged to seek opportunities to practice the language and confirm their progress regularly.

PTE General Exam format

PTE General consists of two parts: a written paper and a
spoken test.

  • The written paper tests listening, reading comprehension and writing skills.
  • The spoken test is assessed by trained local examiners.
