FMGE Overview

FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Screening Exam) is a national level exam conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE) twice in a year in the month of June and December.

FMGE is a licensure exam conducted for candidates who are Citizens of India/ Overseas Citizen of India who possess Medical Degree awarded by a Foreign College or University and are desirous of getting Provisional or Permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for FMGE exam is as follows:

  • Candidate must be a citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India.
  • Candidates need to possess primary medical qualification which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy to be a recognised qualification for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the Institution awarding the said qualification is situated.
  • It is mandatory for the candidate to show the proof of passing the primary medical qualification on or before the cutoff date.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, FMGE has currently introduced a Computer Based Examination (CBT) instead of paper and pencil test. This change in the examination process started from june, 2014 administration. Inspite of reading on a paper booklet and answering by using a pencil/pen to darken the ovals on answer sheet, candidates will have to read the questions on computer terminals and clicks on the correct answer at this time.

The main difference is observed on the presentation of the questions.

A demo test will be available on the NBE website http://www.fmge.nbe.gov.in for the candidates to get familiarized with the functionality and navigation of the actual Computer Based test.

No, a candidate will have to take the test on a pre-assigned computer at the test venue which is  selected by him/her  at the  registration & scheduling  time.

The FMGE is conducted twice a year i.e in the month of June and December. Based on the accessibility of the test centres, a notification is made on NBE website regarding  the dates for this examination.

No restriction is found regarding the number of attempts made by the applicant. Nevertheless, a candidate can make only an attempt in each testing workstation during the time of exam.

TEST DURATION & PATTERN:

FMGE consists of two parts which contain total of 150 questions. The time allotment for each part is 150 minutes including a scheduled break in between these two parts.

Scheduled time two parts:

  • Part I: 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM (including 15 minutes tutorial).
  • Part II: 3:15 PM to 5:45 PM.

Before starting of the examination, a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) will be acknowledged from each candidate.

Total number of questions will be 300 with 150 questions for each part.

Yes, there will be a option to navigate between the questions through the Review Screen. But, it will not be possible to move in between the two sections of the test. Candidates are suggested to visit on NBE website http://www.fmge.nbe.gov.in for a sample test to get familiar with  the navigation and functionality of the actual test.

Also, a 15 minutes tutorial will be available before the initiation of exam.

Questions will be purely multiple choice with four options including one correct answer.

The syllabus will cover all the subjects of MBBS course including pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical studies. Each subject will carry approximate weightage as given  in the bulletin.

The 15-minute tutorial provides a series of screens that will make you learn about the computer-based FMGE as well as the navigation system  between questions, review, select, de-select, change and mark responses etc. The total duration of the tutorial is 15 minutes. Before starting of the actual test, candidates are suggested to go through it. At the end of the tutorial, a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) will be acknowledged from each candidate prior to the actual exam. Also, candidates can visit on NBE website at http://www.fmge.nbe.gov.in to go through the Demo exam.

A demo test defines the sample computer-based test. This test is used to make acquainted the candidates with the functionality and navigation of the actual Computer Based test.

This test consists of a tutorial about the various features of the test, for instance, moving between screens, selecting, deselecting, marking and reviewing responses etc., along with some sample questions.  Besides, these sample questions do not represent the content of difficulty level of the actual exam.
